Rome 8/16/06

Michelle listens to an audio tour about the "colloseo".
Today we went to the Roman Colliseum. It was quite an experience! We learned that the reason there are a lot of pieces missing is due to the romans taking building material from the colliseum once it was closed.
This picture was taken accross from the colliseum, in the ruins of former Roman palaces, in an area called the stodio, or stadium. It was the area where the rulers would watch small tournaments.
The inside of the colliseum. You can see the area that used to be the arena. This was the place that animals and slaves were kept and brought out onto the arena floor through trap doors.
